Moringa & Avocado Power Greens Shea Moisture Review

Can Shea Moisture Moringa & Avocado Power Greens collection revive my type 4 natural hair? Check out my Real Deal Review to find out!

During the natural hair product boom of the 2000s, Shea Moisture was one of the first brands to emerge into mainstream forefront with one or two flagship collections. Over the past few years, however, I have watched the brand seemingly explode with new lines catering to all kinds of hair needs and types. The sheer variety makes the possibility of finding great products for your specific needs quite likely.
Having tried six of the 30+ collections Shea Moisture has to offer, I have certainly experienced plenty of misses, but also some really great hits. The Shea Moisture Red Palm & Cocoa Butter collection is one of the few natural hair product lines that has become a true staple in my cabinet. (Check out my review here.) Therefore, when I saw the Moringa & Avocado Power Greens collection, I wasn’t hesitant to give it a try.
About the Moringa & Avocado Power Greens Collection
The Shea Moisture Moringa & Avocado Power Greens Collection is a range of wash day products designed to moisturize, nourish, and transform weak, dull curly to coily hair. The collection harnesses the power of ingredients such as moringa oil, avocado, and kale to promote stronger hair with seven times more shine. All of the products have a very pleasant scent. The sweet undercurrents of fruit, herb, and vegetable extracts play well with essential oils to create a spa-like reminiscence.
What do the key ingredients do?
- Moringa oil is an emollient oil that moisturizes the scalp, strengthens the hair against split ends, and has anti-inflammatory properties.
- Avocado oil is a moisturizing oil with the ability to penetrate the hair cortex and make it stronger.
- Kale is full of nutrients and vitamins, such as vitamin A for healthy sebum and vitamin C for collagen. These vitamins are thought to promote elasticity in hair.
- Matcha is a green tea powder. In addition to the humectant properties of panthenol (vitamin B), vitamin A, and vitamin E, matcha has antioxidants that are great for scalp health.
- Green algae extract (Chlorella Vulgaris) is a rich source of B12 and amino acids, promoting hair growth and strength.
These products also have no sulfates, parabens, phthalates, petrolatum or mineral oil. They are also not tested on animals.
MORINGA & AVOCADO POWER GREENS SHAMPOO
$9.99 at Target – 13 fl oz

As the first step in the wash process, the Moringa & Avocado Power Greens Shampoo sets the stage for an easy ride. It has a similar consistency to other Shea Moisture shampoos I’ve tried, in that it is on the runnier side. Some may prefer a creamier shampoo, but I don’t mind as long as it’s effective. I love that it has the slip I look for in a moisturizing shampoo and it does not leave my hair feeling stripped or overly dry. After shampooing my hair, I was easily able to proceed to the next step without tangling or knots. My hair actually feels smooth to the touch after shampooing.
Verdict: Might-Fine
MORINGA & AVOCADO POWER GREENS HAIR TEA RINSE
$7.99 at Target– 8.5 oz

The Moringa & Avocado Power Greens Hair Tea Rinse is a dual-duty product that can be used in lieu of shampoo on light wash days or as a “booster” during a full wash day. As the second step in a full wash day process, it serves to soften the hair and promote shine. As the second step in my wash day, I couldn’t really tell an immediate difference, but I did have success using the product to wash my spring twists.
One small bone I have to pick is the packaging. This rinse comes in a nozzle tip bottle, but it has a true liquid consistency. The instructions say to apply evenly to hair and scalp. The nozzle is great for the scalp, but I have a hard time pouring something with the consistency of water into my hand to distribute on my hair. I almost wish it came as a spray instead.
Verdict: It’s Decent
MORINGA & AVOCADO POWER GREENS CONDITIONER

$9.99 – 13 fl oz at Target
The Moringa & Avocado Power Greens Conditioner is meant as the third step in this regimen. The product claims to nourish hair without weighing it down. It also claims to moisturize, detangle and soften the hair, making it more manageable. This conditioner is meant to be used in concert with the hair tea rinse, as it is applied immediately after without rinsing the hair tea first. This conditioner, in my opinion, is a bit thicker than other Shea Moisture conditioners I have used in the past. In terms of slip and manageability, I was able to finger detangle my hair with ease, which is a plus for those looking for more gentle manipulation.
Verdict: Pretty Good
MORINGA & AVOCADO POWER GREENS RECONSTRUCTOR
$9.99 at Target – 8 oz

The Moringa and Avocado Power Greens Reconstructor is the final step in the wash day process. This pudding-like deep conditioner sets forth to nourish and transform hair by adding lots of moisture. The intended outcome is strong, smooth hair. I activate this with medium heat as suggested and have been consistently pleased with the results.
My most recent wash was after a blowout and I was very impressed with how well my hair reverted. Normally, it takes a couple of washes for my hair to come to its senses. With the help of this reconstructor, it popped right back unscathed.
Verdict: Mighty-Fine
The Verdict
The only drawback to this collection is the same qualm I have with most of Shea Moisture’s offerings: it’s INCOMPLETE. In the instance of the Moringa & Avocado Power Greens line, there are no styling products! I don’t mind mixing and matching, but I also understand that most collections of products are formulated to work in concert with each other. I wasn’t sure which of my styling products would work well without sabotaging the intended effects. When using this line, I opt for the Shea Moisture Red Palm Curl Stretch Pudding to at least stay within the brand.
Otherwise, the proof is my styled, dry hair. This product line gives me some of the softest, fluffiest hair I have ever had. And it feels strong! The fact that I had minimal shedding in the shower leads me to believe the products deliver on their claim to strengthen weak hair. As you can see my hair has a sheen, definition, and more bounce to the ounce! I was also able to get pretty solid 4th-day hair out of my twist out.
Verdict: HIGH AND MIGHTY!
I may not be totally over the moon about each of the individual products, but they give me amazing results when used together as directed. I think the Moringa & Avocado Power Greens line will become another staple in my go-to product collection.
